Leadership Grand Traverse
Leadership Grand Traverse is a premier community leadership program offered through Traverse Connect and facilitated by Learn & Lead. Since 2016, Dr. Cathy Meyer-Looze has directed this program, with Dr. Rick Vandermolen serving as co-facilitator.
This intensive, eight-month program identifies and prepares emerging and existing leaders for decision-making roles within the Grand Traverse region. Through twelve full-day sessions, participants gain comprehensive exposure to the community’s opportunities and challenges while building the leadership skills and professional networks needed to make a difference.

The Challenge
The Grand Traverse region needed a structured pathway for developing the next generation of community leaders. Organizations across sectors—from healthcare and education to business and government—were seeking leaders who understood the full complexity of the region and could work collaboratively across boundaries.
The Solution
Learn & Lead designed and facilitates Leadership Grand Traverse as a comprehensive, cohort-based leadership experience. Through hands-on site visits, direct engagement with community leaders, and a curriculum spanning eight critical topic areas, participants develop a deep, nuanced understanding of the region while building lasting professional relationships.
The Impact
Graduates of Leadership Grand Traverse have gone on to take leadership roles across the region—serving on boards, leading organizations, and driving community initiatives. The program has built a powerful alumni network and strengthened cross-sector collaboration throughout the Grand Traverse area.
